June local service project!

Thank you to all who volunteered for our June local service project and especially to Kathy for her efforts!  This update is from Kathy, "God brought many willing volunteers and wonderful students to the week-long math camp at Dobie Middle School. God blessed us so much that on some days, the tutors outnumbered the students! We had a great week of coming alongside the students and connecting with them personally as well as through math. It was a blessing for all who were involved, and we look forward to more opportunities to mentor and encourage His children."
Original post follows:
Join WOV Austin in tutoring math students at a week-long math camp for Dobie Middle School students!  This is  a wonderful opportunity to really make a difference in a child's life!

Austin Chinese Church (church home to several of our WOV Austin leadership team!) will be partnering with Dobie Middle school to put on a Math Camp.  There will be a week-long camp for 15-20 of the lowest incoming 6th graders going into Dobie Middle School.  The camp will run from Monday, 6/6- Friday, 6/10 from 9am-12 noon @ Dobie Middle School's Family Resource Center.  This school is in North Austin off of Rundberg.  The goal of the camp is to challenge the students but also help them become more confident and proficient in their math skills.

Main points of focus will be: measurement, proportions (fractions/percentages), and problem-solving.  There will be focused teaching times with along with fun activities during break times. Next Steps: If you are interested in volunteering for any portion of this math camp, let Kathy W. know by e-mailing wovaustin at gmail.com.  Please feel free to pass this message along to others.  Volunteers from 8th grade to adults are welcome.  All volunteers need to complete an online background check through AISD, and that can take a bit of time, so let us know asap.
